My Top 10 College Essentials

1) AirPods

I highly recommend always having some type of earbuds or headphones with you. Sometimes you need to tune people out to get work done or to pop some headphones on to avoid talking to people (don’t lie, I know you’ve experienced this before!). Ever since I got AirPods over the summer (link to my blog post about how

they were an impulse purchase), I use them pretty much everyday.

They are a game changer and I actually can’t imagine life before them (I’m aware of how dramatic that sounds but it’s true). I use them to make phone calls, as I'm walking to class, and when I’m working out.

2) White Adidas Stan Smiths

Owning a pair of white sneakers, whether they are Adidas Stan Smiths or Nike Air Force 1, seems like a basic college staple. I love my white Stan Smiths because they are comfortable for walking around campus and because they go with everything!

3) Swell Water Bottle

I drink as much water as I drink coffee (if not more) so I always need to have a water bottle with me. My favorite brand is Swell because I prefer water bottles with a cap that twists off. I am personally not a fan of water bottles with straws. I also like the sleek design/shape of Swell water bottles and I find that the 17 oz is the perfect size for me.

4) Phone Charger/Portable Phone Charger

I feel like this kind of goes without saying but I always carry my phone charger with me. You never know when your phone is going to run out of battery. I always also carry a portable phone charger with me because sometimes you won’t always have access to an outlet.

5) Snacks

I always carry snacks with me! You never know when you need a little pick me up. My favorite snacks to have on hand are almonds and the Dark Chocolate Chunk Trader Joe's Raises the Bar Gluten Free Chewy Granola Bars.

6) Emergency Beauty Bag

I like to always be prepared. So I keep a makeup bag full of random essentials with me in my backpack. My makeup bag consists of contacts, contact solution, ibuprofen, dry shampoo, Nest rollerball perfume, mini mascara, mini Hoola bronzer, mini Benetint, mini Gimme Brow, lip gloss, hair ties, and bobby pins.

6) Google Calendar

Google Calendar is the perfect tool for time management. I am a big proponent for Google Calendar because it is a nice way to visually see all of your time commitments, whether its classes, meetings, workouts, lunches with friends. You’d be surprised by the activities that people schedule. I have friends that schedule their entire day, such as planning when they are going to work on an assignment by the minute, etc. I also love Google Calendar because you get a notification 10 minutes before an event. I like the color coding feature as well. For example: all of my classes are yellow, school meetings are purple, and work is blue.

7) Planner

As much as I love Google Calendar, I simply don’t like putting down deadlines or homework assignments on it. I prefer to hand write my to-do list and deadlines in my physical planner. My planner is my life and I love using different colored pens to write down my assignments and deadlines. There’s also a type of satisfaction that comes with crossing things off your to-do list. I really like the Blue Sky planners and I got mine at Target!

9) Medium Sized Notebook

I always carry around a personal notebook with me so I can jot down quick notes or thoughts. I love notebooks that have a soft-bound cover.

10) Sunglasses

This might seem kind of random but I always like to keep a pair of sunglasses with me because you never know when it could get sunny and you don’t want to be squinting as you’re walking across campus. Or maybe you’re not looking too cute and want to avoid eye contact with people, covering your face with sunglasses is the perfect solution!
