I never thought I would be into matcha but here I am today, sharing my recipe for an iced matcha latte! I personally love green tea, but I never really liked matcha because I found it to be very powdery and too potent.
But these months in quarantine have allowed me to experiment more and practice my barista skills. I have finally perfected a recipe that suits my taste buds. All of the products that I use are from Trader Joe's (what a surprise) and are all linked for your reference.
What You Will Need
1) Matcha Powder
I use the Trader Joe's Matcha Green Tea Latte Mix and it's only $3.99 at Trader Joe's!
2) Hot Water
3) Milk or Milk Alternative
I love using the Trader Joe's Matcha Almond Beverage, which is $2.29 at Trader Joe's. If I run out, I'll use the Trader Joe's Oat Beverage.
Steps
1) Put 2 TBSP of matcha powder in a cup
You can use any amount of matcha powder you’d like, just make sure you keep the ratio of matcha to hot water EQUAL. It’s important to keep in mind that the more matcha powder you use, the more caffeinated your beverage will be.
2) Add 2 TBSP of hot water to the matcha powder
3) Mix the hot water with matcha powder
Using an electric whisk makes the matcha not powdery and gets rids of any clumps. But you can also just use a spoon to mix.
4) Add milk
I kind of eyeball the amount of Trader Joe’s Matcha Almond Beverage that I add but I fill my cup up about 3/4 of the way so I leave room for lots of ice.
You can use any kind of milk or milk alternative that you would like. Surprisingly, using a matcha flavored milk alternative doesn't make the iced latte too overbearing with a matcha flavor.
5) Add Ice
And voila, you have made an iced matcha latte! I’ve found that I don’t need to sweeten my iced matcha latte. But if you prefer sweeter drinks, you can add honey, Stevia, or any kind of sweetener.
