Podcasts are a great way to consume content on the go. I listen to podcasts for a variety of reasons. I listen to my daily horoscope, keep up to date on current events, learn more about an entrepreneur, etc. No matter what I’m listening to, I feel like I am learning.
I also listen to podcasts whenever I get tired of listening to music because they are a nice way to feel like you’re talking to someone, even though the conversation is pretty much one sided. There’s comfort in knowing that you have someone’s voice to listen to. I listen to all my podcasts on Spotify!
Lifestyle
I love listening to lifestyle podcasts because they feel like you’re having a conversation with friends. The topics usually discussed aren’t too serious, so it’s nice to have something to listen to.
1) Gals on the Go
I love this podcast because I find the two hosts to be super-relatable, as I am close in age with them. Brooke Miccio recently graduated from the University of Georgia, so I like hearing about post-grad life and what it’s like to be self-employed. Danielle Carolan is currently a junior at the University of Georgia and I enjoy learning about what it’s like being a YouTuber in college and how she balances it all. Episodes come out weekly on Wednesdays.
2) Pretty Basic
This podcast is also hosted by two successful YouTubers, Alisha Marie and Remi Cruz. I like the insights that they provide about what it’s like in the industry, as well as hearing more about their personal lives. Episodes come out weekly on Wednesdays.
3) Asian Boss Girl
Hosted by three Asian American women in their late 20s and early 30s, Melody Chen, Janet Wang, and Helen Wu, I find this podcast to be very unique and special. They talk about real topics and share how their identity as Asian American women have shaped their experiences. These are women I look up to because it’s rare to see Asian Americans represented in the media and I am curious to know more about how they have handled and approached different situations. Episodes come out on Fridays typically, but they are currently on hiatus.
4) Call Your Girlfriend
I love the dynamic between the two hosts, Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow! The podcast is described as “a podcast for long distance besties”. They talk about a range of topics and sometimes have guests on their podcasts. Episodes come out on Fridays.
News
These podcasts keep me up to date on the news. Episodes for both of these podcasts come out daily.
1) The Daily
2) Today, Explained
Informational/Interview-Style
I love learning more about people's stories and their career journey. I find these podcasts to be super insightful because of the range of people that are interviewed and the topics discussed.
1) Directionally Challenged
I was drawn to this podcast because the two hosts, Candice King and Kayla Ewell, were actors on The Vampire Diaries, one of my favorite TV shows! I love that they are best friends and enjoy the variety of guests that they have on their show. Guests range from authors, entrepreneurs, actors, to founders of volunteer organizations. Episodes come out weekly every Monday.
2) Superwomen With Rebecca Minkoff
I love how empowering this podcast is because Rebecca interviews female entrepreneurs. I really do enjoy learning more about these women’s stories and hearing about how they got their start in their respective industries. Episodes come out weekly on Tuesdays.
3) Business Casual
I might be biased since this podcast is from Morning Brew, a daily business newsletter that was started by a University of Michigan alum. But I truly think that it's a great podcast for hearing from thought leaders and CEOs. Episodes come out weekly on Tuesdays.
4) How I Built This With Guy Raz
This podcast is from NPR and sometimes the episodes released are old but nonetheless, Guy Raz is a great interviewer and isn’t afraid to ask controversial questions. My favorite episodes were his interviews with Michael Dell and Steve Madden.
Astrology
I love astrology! I don’t take it too seriously, but I do enjoy reading my horoscope and learning more about my zodiac sign.
1) Gemini Today
These episodes are 2 minutes long and come out everyday. I listen to episodes every morning.
2) Ghost of a Podcast
I really like the energy of the host, Jessica Lanyadoo. She’s engaging and usually begins each episode with a question from a listener. Then she goes on to give a preview of what to expect for the week ahead. Episodes come out every Sunday.
I hope you enjoyed reading about the different podcasts I listen to! Let me know if you plan on checking any of them out.
