Today, I wanted to share 20 of my most memorable moments of 2020. I am truly grateful that even in the midst of a pandemic, that I was still able to make some amazing memories with my friends and family.
1) Michigan Basketball Game with Shannon - January 9, 2020
I love hanging out with Shannon because she’s always down to try new things or experience something new. This was the first basketball game that I attended since freshman year. We played Purdue and went into double overtime!
2) Ice Skating with Sophia - January 22, 2020
Sophia is one of my best friends from middle school and goes to college in Ohio. However, she’s always home for the month of January. For the past 3 years, we've kept our annual tradition of going ice skating at Yost Ice Arena.
3) Michigan Hockey Game with Shannon - February 21, 2020
This was my first ever hockey game and once again I went with Shannon. Hockey games are totally different from football and basketball games, so I'm happy I got to experience what going to one was like. It was a fun game, even though we lost to Notre Dame.
4) Spring Break in Miami - February/March 2020
This was my first college spring break where I actually went on a trip. I had an amazing time in Miami and loved spending time under the sun with close friends. I have an entire blog post about my spring break in Miami!
5) Turning 21 - May 31, 2020
Yes, I turned 21 during a pandemic. I had a Zoom birthday party that Sophia actually moderated. It was a lot of fun because my college friends got to “meet” my high school friends. I really appreciated everyone that came and all the sweet things my friends said.
6) Weekly Trader Joe’s Runs with Claire
My love for Trader Joe’s proliferated after my summer in NYC in 2019 because this was the only grocery store I shopped at. Claire and I started going to Trader Joe’s about once a week during the summer. We’d typically go on Fridays so we could catch up on the week.
7) Blank Slate with Shannon
Clearly, I spend a lot of time with Shannon. But I'm really happy that we got so close this year. She stayed in Ann Arbor for the summer and we would sit on her porch and talk for hours. We also went to Blank Slate a lot, which is an ice cream place I’m obsessed with.
8) Picnic in the Arb with Sophia - June 30, 2020
As Ann Arbor Townies, the Arb is a spot that I seem to always go to. It gets old after awhile but it’s a good place to go on walks. One day in the summer, Sophia and I had a little picnic in the field with fruits and snacks from Trader Joe's.
9) Spending Time at the Lake
I love being on the water and being surrounded by any body of water. My parents' friends have a lake house, so my parents and I went to their house a few times over the summer. I also went on a jet ski for the first time!
10) Grand Haven Day Trip - August 20, 2020
My parents and I wanted to go to the “beach” and made a day trip to Grand Haven. It was super fun and relaxing and I enjoyed spending time with my parents.
11) Campus Correspondent for Poets&Quants
I never realized how much I loved writing until this year. I was actually selected to serve as my business school’s campus correspondent for Poets&Quants, which is a national online publication for those interested in anything business school related. I love writing for P&Q because it's a platform where I get to share my own experiences as an Asian-American female in business school.
12) Arb Walk with Christy & Mei Mei - August 29, 2020
As you can see, 2020 was the year of walks. I don't think I've gone on as many walks as I did this year. I’m thankful that it didn’t start getting cold until November. My friend Christy actually brought her dog to campus this past semester! The first time I met Mei Mei was in the Arb, where we ate Potbelly’s and went on a walk.
13) Drip House Coffee with Kareem - September 11, 2020
Kareem and I went to Drip House Coffee, which is a cute coffee shop that opened up across the Big House. This day was special because it was the day I got my full-time offer from Eli Lilly and Kareem was the first person I told (besides my parents).
14) Picnic with Shannon - September 25, 2020
This was a very memorable day for Shannon and I because we got attacked by a dog. Okay, I’m exaggerating a little but this (unleashed) dog came and interrupted our picnic by snatching my pesto wrap from my plate. The owner was all the way across the field and was taking her time to come get her dog. She apologized then attached a leash on her dog and walked away. 5 minutes later the dog runs back and proceeds to attack a group of girls who are sitting behind us who having their own picnic!
15) Going to Bill’s Beer Garden Weekly
Coming here with my friends was seriously the highlight of my week. I love bumping into people I know and introducing people to this spot!
16) Carving My First Pumpkin - October 3, 2020
This was another activity that I did with Shannon and it was super fun!
17) Christy’s 22nd Birthday - October 17, 2020
This was a fun but semi-stressful day. I was in charge of decorating Christy’s house while her boyfriend was busy distracting her. Her housemates were gone at their swim meet, so it was all on me. But I managed to decorate the house with time to spare. She was surprised when she came back.
18) Friendsgiving - November 14, 2020
Shannon hosted a mini Friendsgiving for Claire, Hannah, and I. We all brought a dish and decorated holiday cookies. It was a super low-key and relaxing night.
19) Garage Bar with GG - November 20, 2020
I love catching up with GG! We got feta bread and drinks at Garage Bar. Even though I saw her on Zoom every Monday for class, we didn’t get to see much of each other throughout the semester.
20) Matching Christmas PJs - December 25, 2020
I have always wanted to be one of those families that wears matching pajamas for Christmas. My brother and I got our family matching red plaid pajamas but only mine and my mom’s came in time for Christmas.
Even though 2020 was not what I envisioned it to be in the slightest, I am grateful that I have these memories to look back on. I am definitely looking forward to 2021 and for all the new changes that are to come. Stay tuned for my next blog post where I will be sharing what I am looking forward to in 2021!
